It is imperative that you update your systems on a regular basis. Most users use Windows applications and these will usually download and install updates automatically. In some very specific cases it might be wise to update drivers and/or software manually.

BUT WHAT IS "UPDATING"?

Updating is keeping your systems up-to-date, not only the operating system of your computer but the software installed on it and connected hardware such as your (Zebra) printers. Basically, this is important for all devices that connect to the Internet on a regular or permanent basis.

WHAT KIND OF UPDATES ARE THERE?

Broadly speaking, there are two types of software updates. A functional update that ensures that your software is more stable, faster and works better. A functional update is rarely urgent.
A security update, on the other hand, is usually urgent. This type of update improves the security of your software by, for example, fixing discovered vulnerabilities. It is not wise to postpone security updates. In the case of Windows systems, this is usually automatic. By installing the suggested updates immediately you will be working with the latest and safest version of the software you use.
Nowadays, printer drivers (drivers), for example, also often come automatically with the updates. In some cases it can be useful to update these drivers manually.
